Sgt. Tim Watson has served the Longview Police Department for 28 years. Throughout his career, Sgt. Watson has traversed the diverse landscape of policing, having served in various specialty units and critical roles. In the beginning of his law enforcement journey, Sgt. Watson became a Field Training Officer, driving instructor, and Crisis Negotiator. Early on, Sgt. Watson joined the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Drug Task Force and served as a detective in that unit for 9 years. As a Task Force Detective, Sgt. Watson worked to disrupt the heart of criminal organizations involved in trafficking drugs from Mexico, up the West Coast, to our community. After completing tours with the Task Force, Sgt. Watson was promoted to the first-line supervisor rank of Corporal with the Longview Police Department. As Corporal, Sgt. Watson became a champion for the department’s community policing efforts, dedicated to problem solving criminal activity and quality of life issues. Sgt. Watson served a tour in the Criminal Investigations Unit, specializing in abuse against minors and sexual assault cases. Sgt. Watson tackled some of the most challenging, complex, and high-stakes cases with precision and tenacity. In his current capacity as Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Unit, Sgt. Watson brings his wealth of experience and expertise to the forefront addressing one of the most pressing issues facing law enforcement today, the mental health crisis. Sgt. Watson leads a team of crisis responders and outreach coordinator to provide support and resources to individuals in crisis, fostering a more compassionate and effective approach to public safety.
