About Ryan

Ryan Jurvakainen is the Prosecuting Attorney of Cowlitz County. He was first elected in 2015 and is currently serving his third 4-year term. The Cowlitz County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is the largest legal office in the County consisting of many dedicated public servants to include 18 attorneys and 16 professional support staff. The office consists of a criminal division, a civil division, and a support enforcement division. Ryan was born and raised in Cowlitz County. After graduating from Mark Morris High School, he attended Lower Columbia College earning his associate’s degree. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. After acquiring his law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law, he returned home to Longview to begin his legal career. Ryan is currently serving as the Vice President of the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (WAPA), the State association that represents all 39 county prosecutors in Washington State. He has previously served as its secretary, treasurer, and as an at-large midsize county board member. Ryan has also recently been nominated to serve as co-chair of the WAPA Juvenile Committee. In his spare time, for years he has been heavily involved in local youth sports, mostly baseball both as a board member and youth coach. He and his wife Lindsay reside in Longview and have two children, Gunnar and Hadley both of whom are middle school aged. The family is rounded out by their 85 lb. chocolate Labrador named Moose.
