About Ian
Ian Thompson is the Operations Coordinator and Founder of Lower Columbia School Gardens. Ian has spent much of his life in Longview, Washington. He graduated from RA Long High School in 1989, and attended Lower Columbia College and The Evergreen State College. He spent 13 years working as a general contractor in Cowlitz County. He began volunteering as Coordinator of the Northlake Elementary school garden, and established Lower Columbia School Gardens in 2010. Ian has a passion for witnessing the confidence and self-esteem kids get when they’re growing and cooking their own food, and using real tools to do real work.
