About Brad
Brad Thurman is the Cowlitz County Sheriff serving his 2nd term. Thurman is a 46-year resident of Cowlitz County and a 37-year veteran of the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office. His career began as a Deputy Sheriff in 1987 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1999 and served as Chief Criminal Deputy prior to serving as Sheriff. Assignments have included patrol, drug investigator, radar instructor, field training officer, and Sergeant of the investigations unit. He is a graduate of R.A. Long High School, Lower Columbia College, and Portland State University. He holds Executive certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and has attended the National Sheriff’s Institute. He is past President of the Cowlitz County Deputies and Sergeants Guild, and serves on the Cowlitz 911 board, and as a board member of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, Cowlitz County Chaplaincy, the Rizad Foundation, the Cowlitz County Historical Society, and the Cowlitz Substance Abuse Coalition.
