About Alison

Dr. Alison Deary is the Director at the US Fish and Wildlife Service Abernathy Fish Technology Center, which is an applied science research facility located in Longview, Washington. She has been with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) for two years but started her federal career at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle, Washington where she was based for six years as their Ichthyoplankton Team Lead. In that position, she and her team identified all of the fish eggs, larvae, and juveniles collected offshore of Alaska from the southern border with Canada to the northern border. Her research interests are focused on how ecosystem and changes to the ecosystem impact fishes in their first year of life. Prior to moving to Longview, she spent up to 6 weeks each year on research vessels offshore in the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Central Pacific Ocean, coastal Atlantic Ocean, and even off the coast of South Africa! Growing up a Military brat, she enjoys new adventures and meeting new people.
